We’re very pleased to announce we provide wind mitigation inspections! Wind mitigation is the implementation of building techniques to protect the home from potential damage caused by strong winds. Even if a home is insured, it is always costly when damaged, both for the homeowner and the insurance agency. Repairs can easily take months, especially during shortages that follow destruction to entire communities, as was the case after Hurricane Katrina.
Following Hurricane Andrew Florida passed a law requiring insurance companies to offer their customers discounts and/or credits for existing home features and improvements that reduce wind damage and loss. In order to qualify for this discount, homes must undergo a certified home wind inspection. Lenders in Florida require homeowners to carry windstorm insurance in order to be approved for a mortgage. Insurers might choose to withold windstorm insurance to homes that are vulnerable to wind damage.
